Local Queen's and full sets of Bee's
When it comes to maintaining a healthy beehive, one of the most crucial components is the queen bee. Local queen bees, bred in your region, can offer numerous benefits for your hive, including increased resilience to local pests and diseases. If you notice a decline in hive productivity or a decrease in bee activity, it might be time to consider replacing your queen. Sourcing a local queen bee not only supports regional beekeepers but also ensures that the new queen is well-adapted to the local environment. When selecting a replacement, look for reputable local breeders who prioritize breed quality and health. A strong, vibrant queen can lead to a thriving colony, enhancing your honey production and contributing to the ecological balance of your area.

The queen controls nearly everything about a hive.
What this means:
- One queen influences tens of thousands of bees
- Her genetics determine:
- Temperament
- Productivity
- Health
- Long-term survival of the colony
- She is not just a replacement bee, she is the foundation of the entire hive
Temperament
Their queens produce gentle, easy-to-work colonies.
Benefits:
- Safer inspections
- Less stinging
- More enjoyable beekeeping
- Good for:
- Backyard beekeepers
- Hobbyists
- Commercial operations
Productivity
High brood production = more bees = more honey.
- Excellent honey producers
- Strong foraging instinct
- Build large populations quickly during nectar flow
How it works:
- Strong queens lay lots of eggs
- More eggs → more brood → more bees
- More bees → more foragers
- More foragers → more nectar → more honey
Result: We have seen 100+ pounds of honey per hive in our apiary
Brood Pattern
These queens are exceptional egg layers.
Traits:
- Tight, solid brood patterns
- Eggs laid end-to-end across frames
- No spotty brood
Benefits:
- Fast spring build-up
- Explosive population growth
- Large foraging force during nectar flow
- More honey production
Color & Appearance
- Golden yellow to light brown
- Bright banding on abdomen
Colony Growth
- Rapid colony expansion
- Excellent comb builders
- Strong wax production
Overwintering
- Good overwintering in mild climates like California
- Large winter clusters (may consume more food than some other strains)
Swarming Tendency
- Moderate — can swarm if crowded or unmanaged
- Regular inspections help control this
Disease Resistance
OCB queens carry VSH (Varroa Sensitive Hygiene) traits.
- Worker bees:
- Detect mite-infested brood
- Remove it from the hive
- This breaks the mite reproduction cycle
Results:
- Very low mite levels
- Alcohol wash counts commonly 0–2 mites
- Healthier, stronger colonies
- Reduced chemical treatment needs
Important: This is not a promise of zero mites — just consistently low mite pressure
